DJ Burns needs to be in the NFL and NBA immediately

The collective human experience is often defined by a commonly accepted set of life-altering events. High school and college graduation. Marriage. A new child.

We all accept these circumstances as truly life-changing. There’s life before these events, and life after, and they are two distinct and discrete settings of experience.

I’d like to offer up a new event to this impeccable list – watching DJ Burns carry NC State over Duke and into the 2024 Final Four.

My life will never be the same after witnessing that performance. 29 points, four rebounds, and three assists on 13-19 shooting. Duke threw all they could at him, and it still couldn’t stop Burns from chucking the ball up from the post and scoring.

He’s even got the silky touch from the mid-range. It’s bonkers that a team containing this sort of beast wasn’t going to make the tournament before its ACC Tournament win. Nonetheless, we’re here now, and I couldn’t be more excited.

By the way, remember when I put the Wolfpack on Cinderella Watch headed into the tournament? Yeah, I had some misses, but that pick was a big hit.

Anyway, I’m all in on NC State headed into the Final Four. We get to see Burns up against Zach Edey. It will be must-watch television, and I’m hoping Burns backs his way through Purdue the way he has all his previous tournament opponents.

Hell, make him a two-sport star! Who says he can’t make it in the NBA? Even Nikola Jokic would love to have him as a teammate.

And yes, I know there isn’t much “jump” in his jumpshot, and that he’s undersized as a professional big. However, his footwork is immaculate, his passing ability out of the post is fantastic, and he’s a bucket-getter anywhere close to the bucket.

I’m only half-kidding, too. I really think Burns could make it in both the NFL and NBA. Imagine him pancaking pass rushers during the day and dishing out dimes at night. The ultimate two-way athlete.

We’re talking about a potential mega-star in the sports world. He’s got the personality, the skills, and even the face. I’ll be praying to the NFL and NBA gods that Burns gets a real shot, and you should be too.

Whether this will actually happen is doubtful, I know, but I also know that my life will never be the same after seeing Burns destroy Duke on Easter Sunday 2024.
